 Qingdao
is one of the major economic centers and
open port cities on China's eastern seaboard.
It is well known for its historic, cultural
and scenic tourist attractions sites,
as well as being of the best places in
China to live and do business, Moreover,
Qingdao will be the host city for the
sailing regatta of the 29th Olympics in
2008.
Nestled between the mountains and the
ocean, Qingdao's unique urban cityscape
is a combination of mountain, sea and
city. The city is studded with lovely
beaches, classic European architecture
and ample trees and gardens set off against
the azure sky above and the endless sea
below.
Qingdao has also secured its economic
and cultural position in the country with
the help of its growing economic strength
and port facilities as well as its leading
role in marine research and the number
of famous brands and enterprises that
call the city their home. Reform and opening-up
have made Qingdao more prosperous and
flourishing than ever before. Preliminary
statistics indicate that Qingdao's GDP
for 2004 was 216.38 billion yuan, an increase
of 16.8 percent over the previous year.
Import and export value reached US$24.332
billion, an increase of 39.3 percent.
Accrued used foreign investment amounted
to US$19.897 billion. In 2004 Qingdao
was given the "Entrepreneur Satisfaction
Award" and was named by China Central
Television as one of the "Top Ten
Economically Dynamic Cities in China".
After China's entry into the WTO ,Qingdao
has given priority to its plans to develop
its port, marine and tourist industries
as well as build up its industrial bases
in electronics and home appliances, petrochemicals,
automobile, locomotive and shipbuilding,
and new materials, so as to lead the county
in modernization and gear up the pace
of turning Qingdao into a key center city
in China and a well-known city with distinctive
features in the world .Partners in the
city's growth and modernization will share
the fruits of the city's rapid economic
development and bountiful financial returns.
